WONG/KIDMAN COLLABORATION
Nicole Kidman has confirmed she’s joined forces with acclaimed Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai for his next project The Lady From Shanghai.
Unlike Wong’s most recent feature, the much publicized 2046 which took five years to film, Kidman is confident Shanghai won’t be such a protracted process. According to Screen Daily, Kidman, who has spent a lot of time with the director in New York working on the project reported: “He is trying to work in a different way on this one.”
And the leggy star has proof that Wong is capable of better time-keeping since he has already shot all his scenes with his other leading lady, Chinese star Gong Li – and he succeeded in doing so in just five weeks.
With all Kidman's commitments which include her current work on the classic TV series Bewitched for Columbia, as well as Eucalyptus for director Jocelyn Moorhouse in Australia and The Producers: The Movie Musical for Susan Stroman in New York City, the Oscar-winning actress will be hard-pressed to fit Shanghai in, but claims it will be ‘an honour’ to work with the legendary Wong: “His films are absolutely exquisite,” she said, but was not willing to divulge any further information about Wong’s film: “He'd kill me if I revealed anything!”
Currently promoting Jonathan Glazer's Birth, Kidman will next be seen in Sydney Pollack's The Interpreter early next year.
